Popol Vuh was a German electronic band founded by composer Florian Fricke in 1969. Their sound was heavily influenced by traditional music from around the world, particularly that of the Maya people of Guatemala. They are often considered pioneers of the ambient and world music genres. The band disbanded in 2001 following the death of Fricke, but their legacy continues to inspire contemporary artists.
