She then formed the Jackie Shane Band and released singles like “Any Other Way” which became a hit and propelled her to fame. Shane retired from music in the early 1970s and lived a private life in Nashville until her death in 2019. She was known for her powerful voice, flamboyant stage presence, and her trailblazing role as a transgender performer at a time when such visibility was rare.
